That species should last a good, long time. Mother Nature really gave 'em a bum deal.

Is religion the real reason for many wars?
by Pole ina lot of posters on this board have expressed the opinion that religion is the reason for many wars.
some have even implied that if religion was "banned" the number of wars would be reduced.

Won't argue you on that one, since you obviously know a lot more than me on the subject, but it was still a war fueled by religious fervor, making me only a partial moron.

Killing One's Ego...
by FMZ inmany of the ancient mystics and their belief systems supported the idea that to truly live life, and draw close to god, each one of us has to remove his "ego".
even jesus hinted at it.. i think today, "ego" is very often taken as meaning pride.
this is but one facet of one's ego.

One thing about ego-death is we always have the option of getting it back, going back to the old ignorant ways. The world would be a much better place if everyone had this experience even just once. Saying that it is a bad thing to step outside it is a statement based on ignorance and fear. It is good for a person to at least see that there are other ways to perceive the world around them, not just taking what their particular life experience and interpretation thereof has given them. I shudder to think of what I would be like had I not had this experience.

I would say religion is used as a fuel for wars, a way to rally the troops under a higher calling than simple nationality, and another way to broadly categorize the enemy as different. Even wars that were overtly religious, like the Crusades, were really about extending an empire, with religion revving the soldiers up to the point of mass murdering. IMO, religion is almost never the real reason for wars, but without it there would be a lot less destruction.

Hmmm, sixth sense, I like that better than thinking I am a "feminine" man, which is what society tries to make you feel like if you are an intuitive male. It is a skill that can be developed, as I was a complete block head emotionally until a few years ago, and it develops more and more with experience. In my personal case, it all started with awareness (who knows where that came from?).

Beatles or Rolling Stones Fan, which were/are you?
by eyeslice inperhaps you have to be one of those who grew up in the 60's to really appreciate this thread, but then my kids love 60's music too.
who did you think were the best, the beatles or the rolling stones?
is there a bit of a psychological angle here too?

Was a huge Beatles fan, but just played it to death. Haven't really given the Stones as much of a chance, but they rock a lot harder. Keith Richards' riffs are pure rock and roll genius.
